The Student’s Representative Council (SRC) of the Community Health Nurses’ Training College at Tanoso in the Tano North District of Brong-Ahafo Region, has refuted media reports that school authorities are charging unapproved fees.

The student body said it was untrue that they were “bracing up for a demonstration”, as reported in the story which was circulating in the social and other traditional media networks.
They described the publication as false and baseless.

According to the report the Acting Principal, Madam Elizabeth Wiafe and some members of the school’s management forced the final year students to pay GHC600.00 instead of GHC450.00 as examination fees.

But, a statement issued by the SRC said: “We the students are very shocked about the emergence of this issue and would like to apologise to the college authorities, particularly the Acting Principal because it had nothing to do with her “since we have never thought of going on a demonstration”.

The statement was jointly signed by Master Seth Dogbe Ametefe, the SRC President and other 66 final year students of the college and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Sunyani.
It explained that the college was on recess and “no student is even aware of the said information and have nothing to do with the said publication”.

“The said amount in the publication was paid around April when preparations were underway to register for both NMC (Nurses and Midwifery Council) and KNUST (Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology) Examinations. Thus, the stipulated amounts were a consensus that was arrived at by both the head of academics and the students who were to be registered for these exams respectively.

“In order to meet deadlines given by the NMC & KNUST we(students) rather went to the head of academics to discuss these issues so that we could start preparation to get money for the registration process since we could not have waited until the last day before making payment since its difficult getting money during the last days.

“Upon deliberation with the head of academics she made us to understand right from the onset that incase the amount is below the said amount the necessary action will be taken for us to do the top up and if it’s in excess to, it will be refunded… and as such were made to pay to the amount. No management member collected money from us and nobody forced us in that regard,” the statement said.
