The Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN) yesterday in Onitsha became the centre of attraction as its crowd of supporters stole the show at the President Goodluck Jonathan campaign rally in the commercial city in Anambra state.

 Goodluck Jonathan campaign rally

The international advocacy group mobilized a great number of its members and fans to the Basillica of the Most Holy Trinity Catholic Cathedral Field, Onitsha venue of the rally with array of their traditional national colors and uniform to welcome the president’s campaign train with singing and dancing. They were all over the arena chanting and dancing.

TAN chairman, Chief Ifeanyi Uba was also on hand to give the needed boost to the the numerous fans of the group who turned up to give a warm welcome to the president.

Chief Benchuks Nwosu, a member of the Dr Jonathan campaign committee who also doubles as the director of operations for TAN said that the massive support of the political advocacy group to the campaign efforts of the president is in line with the promise made earlier to accord all the necessary support to the president’s re election bid.

He recalled how the group had earlier mobilized over twenty million people who signed up for the president in its zonal rallies that was concluded with an earth shaking grand finale in Abuja, last October.

President Jonathan who spoke at the Obi Onitsha palace debunked the rumors making rounds in the south-east that his administration has abandoned the second Niger Bridge project. He admitted that above N10billion has already gone into the project, out of which N1.5bn was spent on the payment of compensation to citizens.

Worried about the unsavory stories about the project and because of the passion with which the South East holds the project, he had to personally visit the site to inspect the project before coming to Anambra for his campaign, pointing out that over two hundred Nigerians and other expatriates are already working on the project.

He pleaded with Ndigbo to give him their maximum support in the February 14 election as he will not only complete the secondd Niger bridge project but will get it commissioned if he is given the mandate for second tenure.

The Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe commended the president for his all inclusive administration which he said has transformed the nation and ensure empowerment of Ndigbo variously. He therefore pledged the support of his people to the reelection bid.

The royal father used the rare occasion to reconcile the feuding immediate past governor of Anambra state, Mr Peter Obi and the incumbent Gov Willie Obiano whose relationship has been frosty for some time. He made them have a warm handshake and a hearty embrace to the admiration of all.
