An inter-ministerial committee has launched a landmark initiative named: “Dagbon Peace and Progress Now” geared towards promoting peace among the people of Dagbon in the Northern Region.

The initiative was also to help unite all Dagombas following a long age chieftaincy dispute which, occurred after the murder of their overlord Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani ll in the year 2002.

The launch of the initiative took place during the weekend in Tamale.

The inter-ministerial committee comprised of the Northern Regional Coordinating Council (NRCC), the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs and the National Security Ministry.

The launch was done in collaboration with the Northern Regional Peace Council (NRPC) and other stakeholders.

Mr Salifu Saeed, the Northern Regional Minister, who led the committee, said the initiative was to help rekindle all efforts made both by the present and past governments to bring about peace and development in Dagbon.

He said the initiative was also intended to generate renewed supports and cooperation from all stakeholders and partners who were concerned about the development of Dagbon.

Mr Saeed, however, called on all traditional and religious leaders to help preach peace and unity to their subjects for the development of Dagbon and the region.

Alhaji Abdul Razak Saani, the Northern Regional Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), said the region was a potential place to attract investors for development and this could only be achieved if the people of Dagbon cultivated the habit of unity and peaceful coexistence.

He urged the people of Dagbon to be truthful to each other and learn to forgive one another to achieve peace in the region.
Osofo Patrick A. Apullah, a member of the NRPC who spoke on behalf of the Chairman of NRPC, urged all Ghanaians to cultivate the habit of peace, love and togetherness to help promote development in the country.

He said Ghanaians should love one another irrespective of their cultural and political difference in order to promote peace and unity in the country.
