The Talensi Traditional Council in Ghana’s Upper East Region has issued a stern two-week ultimatum to the Talensi Mining Community Initiative (TAMCI), demanding evidence to substantiate claims of bribery and corruption in recruitment processes at Cardinal Namdini Mining Company.

The dispute stems from a July 12 press conference where TAMCI a self-proclaimed civil society group accused traditional leaders and an interim employment committee of selling mining jobs for GH¢20,000 to GH¢35,000. The group also alleged collusion by unnamed traditional rulers in these practices.

In a July 19 resolution, the Traditional Council dismissed TAMCI’s legitimacy, stating the group holds “no mandate or locus” to represent Talensi residents. It warned TAMCI to cease “unauthorized and self-appointed” advocacy, including soliciting funds from mining firms, or face consequences.

The Council defended its recruitment transparency, citing a March 2025 report showing over 1,000 hires half from Talensi District as proof of equitable employment. It further announced a pending August 31 deadline for mining companies to sign social responsibility agreements to ensure local benefits from gold extraction.

With tensions escalating, the Council emphasized its commitment to preserving peace in the region, accusing TAMCI of stirring unrest. The group now has until early August to provide documented proof or risk punitive action.
