But a military source told Syria’s official news agency Saturday the Air Force isolated the operations with air and ground support.

“The army units defending the military academies to the south of Aleppo city, backed by the air force and artillery, have inflicted heavy losses on the Takfiri terrorist groups which renewed attacks along the axis of the academies with large number,” SANA reported.

Government forces, with the help of Russian airstrikes, cut Aleppo’s rebel-held areas off in July, with about 250,000 remaining in the city.

The Syrian Coalition said demonstrators took to the streets celebrating the lift of the siege.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a UK-based activist group, said the western neighborhoods experienced a dramatic raise in vegetable prices after the only one between the regime-controlled areas military complex began Friday.

Al-Nusra Front, which recently rebranded itself into Jabhat Fatah al-Sham, said in an online statement the “fighters from outside the city met their brother fighters from inside the city, and work is under way to establish control over remaining positions to break the siege.”
