Commendation Zoomlion

A cross section of people in the Swedru Municipality have commended Agona West Municipal Directorate of the Zoomlion Waste Management Company Limited for cleaning up all the piled-up refuse at the container sites.

According to the people, the collection of refuse at the sites was a timely intervention to avert a cholera outbreak and other environmentally related diseases, which could occur in Agona Swedru during this rainy season.

Mr. Kofi Attah, a resident of Babianiha Electoral area at Agona Swedru, told the Media that Zoomlion had done a good job by using excavator machine to collect piled-up refuse to help stem environmental diseases.

He said it was time for the people in the town to stop the blame game and rather keep the environment clean as well as deal with the sanitation issues, which were critical since it was the collective responsibility of all citizens.

Mr. Kofi Baafi Apenteng, businessman and resident of Swedru, was excited that the area had been cleared of filth and urged parents to stop sending their children to dump rubbish because majority of them ended up dumping the garbage on the ground.

Mr. Kobina Okyere, another resident of Yaabem, asked the Agona West Assembly to come out with a comprehensive plan that will ensure efficient refuse collection because Zoomlion Company alone cannot cope with the huge tons of refuse generated daily in the Agona Swedru town.

Mr. Christian Ocran, Agona West Officer of Zoomlion, who spoke to the Media after the exercise appealed to the residents to assist the Company by ensuring that their environment was clean at all times, because waste management was a collective responsibility.

He said the decision by the Company to use excavator machine to clean piled-up refuse at the sites had been of immense help and pledged to ensure the sites was cleared intermittently .

Mr. Ocran noted that the Company needed the co-operation and support of the public and asked the people to refrain from dumping refuse indiscriminately on the streets and gutters.
