SWAG 2017 footballer of the year will go to who?

Thomas Arnold Abbey (Accra Hearts of Oak)

The Winneba born star had wonderful season in 2016/17 competing in 29 matches and scoring 13 goals in the Ghana Premier League for Accra Hearts of Oak who placed 3rd with 45 points.

As an attacking midfielder he was adjudged the MVP 7 times. He played 4 FA Cu matches won 2 MVP scoring 3 goals. He also helped Hearts to reach the final only to lose to rivals Asante Kotoko, but scored the lone goal for Hearts in the 3-1 defeat.

He was influential for the local Black Stars who won one MVP plus the coveted WAFU Cup playing at an unusual left full back position. The former Phobia Skipper is now in Egypt continuing his professional career with El Masry.

Amos Frimpong (Kumasi Asante Kotoko)

The captain of Kumasi Asante Kotoko showed real maturity and sacrifices for the club and featured in almost all the matches. He was the expert penalty kicker and also played a key role for the Black Stars Team B who won WAFU Cup hosted by Ghana at Cape Coast. He marshaled the defence and ensured that the Black Stars did not concede.

Stephen Sarfo (Berekum Chelsea)

He was virtually an unknown star until the coaches of the local Black Stars gave him the opportunity to lead the attack for the WAFU Cup, and indeed he was crowned the Goal King of the international competition with 5 goals.

The Berekum Chelsea player exposed himself as a great goal poacher who could take on defenders at will.
