Suspected food poisoning has killed seven people in Nigeria’s northwestern state of Zamfara, local authorities said on Sunday.

A team of medical experts has been deployed to investigate the cause of the food poisoning in Shinkafi town of the state, Acting Governor Abdullahi Shinkafi told reporters.

Shinkafi said the victims included a mother and her five children. They had died after eating leaf porridge, a local food.

The seventh victim was a neighbor, who also ate the food.
