The president of the Gambia Supreme Islamic Council, Momodou Lamin Touray, urged Muslims to have faith in Allah and respect their religion.

On Tuesday, religious leaders of the Gambia met and discussed pertinent issues on Islam in the country.

According to the country’s regious leaders, Islam means peace and tolerance, and no one is forced to join the religion, as it calls for the truth and doing the right thing in life, and these are the reasons why they convened this meeting to support president’s decision for the country to be an Islamic state.

Gambia Supreme Islamic Council (GSIC or SIC) is the leading Muslim organization in the West African nation of The Gambia, based in Serekunda.

The organization was founded in 1992 and is made up of some 50 Islamic scholars. The Board of Directors consists of imams from different communities in The Gambia as well as principals various institutions, business people, teachers and opinion leaders.

The council also specifies the data of the Muslim Holidays in Gambia, such as for Eid al-Adha. Enditem
