The Supreme Court on Wednesday found the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie aka ?Sir John? and a member of the communications team of the party, Hopeson Adorye guilty of criminal contempt.

For their punishment, the court ordered them to pay GH? 5,000 and GH? 2,000 respectively or in default, serve a 6-month and 3-month jail term respectively.

Pronouncing judgment, Justice William Atuguba said ??we are reluctantly constrained from imposing a custodial sentence on the contemnor? because of other factors the bench considered.

?Sir John? and Hopeson Adorye have their counsel, Nii Ayikoi Otoo for his wit as he pleaded for the mitigation of their punishment.
