Mrs. Mary Boakye, a Deputy Director of Nursing Services (DDNS) at the hospital, said this had become necessary because of the intense pressure on existing children’s ward.

It had led to a situation, where children were being put in adults wards, she added.

She made the appeal, when she received assorted items together with an undisclosed amount of cash in support of the Children’s Unit of the facility.

These included soft drinks, bottled water, plastic washing bowls, eating plates, drinking cups and fruits.

They were a donation from the Women’s Wing of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP).

Mrs. Boakye said the ward was in need not only of a new structure, but adequate logistics to enhance the quality of care – cabinets, bed sheets and toys.

Mrs. Vivian Kakie Tetteh, National Women’s Wing Coordinator of PPP, said the donation was to demonstrate the party’s commitment to improved health care.

It comes as the party makes preparations towards the holding of its national conference in Sunyani, the Brong Ahafo Regional capital.
