6-unit & ancillary facility special school for presby primary at Abesim

Mr. Kwesi Oppong Ababio, Municipal Chief Executive at the Sunyani Municipal Assembly bagged a total of GHc 700,331.00 as internally generated revenue out of a projected GHc710, 283.75 in 2011, representing 98.6 percent performance.
An automated revenue billing section has been created to deal exclusively with rate payer bills and related issues; these were made possible by measures that had been put in place to further improve on the performance. The assembly is also looking into training of revenue officers for revenue collection for effective monitoring and evaluation of revenue collectors.

So far the Sunyani Municipal Assembly has come under hot critics in the Brong Ahafo Region as to which assembly has embarked on more projects than the other, but the MCE explained that the Assembly in collaboration with the Municipal Health Directorate would be implementing the National Malaria Control Programme in the municipality to provide free insecticide treated nets to all stakeholders and that the Assembly has contributed GHc 2000 towards the programme.

Techiman Municipal Assembly which use to run under Sunyani Municipal Assembly and as the old adage goes when two big men wrestle it is the ground that suffer the most. However, in this fight it is the people living in these two big Municipalities that are gaining much development under these two MCE’s Kwesi Oppong Ababio and Hon. Alex Kyeremehme respectively.

The Assemblies are planning to establish libraries to encourage students to cultivate the habit of reading. He said management of the Assembly had discussions with some Professors of Michigan Technology University in the United States of America who had mobilized resources and procured some books and computers to be donated to some libraries in the municipality.

Arrangements are far advanced for the items to arrive in Ghana in July this year to help pupils in basic schools to develop reading skills, the University had also selected the Municipality and Sunyani West District as study areas for exchange programmes for their students.

In an interview with the Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Ababio urged all to put their shoulders to the wheel of development so that future generations would appreciate the municipality’s effort and that of the nation in general.

Mr. Oppong Ababio commended the staff of the Assembly and the area council for their hard-work and commitment to work, which helped the Assembly to perform remarkably last year.

He re-echoed the assembly’s commitment to ensure equitable distribution of development projects without political favors.

Addressing the chiefs and people of Abesim, near Sunyani, at a fund raising rally, Mr. Oppong-Ababio said the assembly would not hesitate to support communities that would initiate self-help development projects.

The rally was aimed at raising money for the “Abesim Education Endowment Fund, initiated by the people to support the expansion of the local Senior High School.

Mr. Oppong-Ababio explained that the municipal assembly alone could not shoulder the responsibility of bringing infrastructural development to all communities. He indicated that whilst the assembly tries as much as possible in developing the communities, it behooves on the community leaders to also lend their support by organizing communal labour activities. Mr Ababio added that, the assembly’s common fund was not enough for the development of the area and appealed to the people to co-operate with revenue collectors and pay their rates in mobilizing the needed resources to facilitate the process.

Mr. Oppong-Ababio advised the people to regard education as a useful tool for accelerated national development and appealed to parents to enroll their school-going age children into schools.

He admonished parents and guardians to minimize their expenses on luxurious items and provide their children with basic educational needs to maintain their interest in school he said the government’s “better Ghana agenda” is still on course and called on the people to vote and retain the National Democratic Congress in the 2012 general election to enable the government to complete its initiated projects.

The Sunyani Municipal Assembly attention was drowned to the development of Abesim a sub community under the Sunyani Municipal Assembly which chalked more development under hon. Ababio’s reign in office as MCE.

Chief of Abesim   Barima Kumi Achiaw II, confirmed that his town has gain a lot under this government regime as compared to the opposition party NPP regime .He called on the MCE President Mills to do something about the spread of diseases and poverty that can be brought under control in the society if the people acquire higher education.

He said due to high school dropouts, most of the youth in the area had become alcoholics and drug addicts while teenage pregnancy is also on the increase.

Barima Kumi Achiaw II stated that even though traditional rulers are barred from active politics, the traditional council would continue to embrace and support political parties that would promote the development of the area so far as their support will lead them into gaining development and progress on the land that they sit to rule.
