Students enrolled under the distance education program of the University of Ghana are set to be moved from the Legon main campus to the Accra City campus where they are expected to receive tuition from Saturday.

Speaking at a level 200 briefing seminar in Legon, Dr. Samuel K.?Badu-Nyarko, Deputy Director of the Institute of Continuing and Distance Education (ICDE) informed students of ?management?s decision to move them from the Legon main campus to the Accra City campus.

According to him, the number of students under the DE program was too large hence put pressure on existing facilities on the main campus, adding that the Accra City Campus had enough rooms to accommodate the current numbers.

Although he did not reveal how authorities concluded on the decision without taking into consideration the plights of students, Dr. S.K Badu-Nyarko insisted the program was not bent on considering the convenience of students in that regard and as such management had the liberty to take such decisions without due consultation with student leaders.

Some students who expressed their frustration at the Institute?s decision implored their leaders to petition the administration to reconsider the decision.

The Distance Education program of the University of Ghana is run in 10 satellite campuses (workers? college) in all the regions of the country with the Accra learning center being on the main Legon campus over the last many years.
