A 24 year-old second year student of Sunyani Methodist Technical Institute has been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment with hard labour by a Tarkwa circuit court for defiling a nineteen months old baby.

Micheal Tetteh, a resident of Aggreso Krofofrom in the Amenfi Central District of the Western Region pleaded guilty to the offence.

The court presided over by His lordship Emmanuel Bart-Plange Brew convicted him on his own plea.

Narrating the incident to the court, Police Chief Inspector Faustina Celestina Anaman, said the complainant is a labourer and father of the victim and lives with his family at Number two quarters, a suburb of Samreboi.

She said on February 2, 2019, the complainant’s wife left the victim in the room and went to the kitchen to prepare a meal.

Chief Inspector Anaman said while the complainant’s wife was busy in the kitchen, Michael who is a family friend sneaked into the room and had sexual intercourse with the victim.

The prosecution said the victim’s mother returned to the room to pick some money she saw the convict lying by the victim and on seeing her, pushed the victim and pretended to be asleep.

She said the victim’s mother then noticed that the child’s pants had been removed to the knee.

Chief Inspector Anaman said she quickly went for the victim and found fluid suspected to be sperms around her womanhood.

She said the mother then informed the complainant and with the help of some netghbours arrested Micheal and handed him over to the Police.

She said the victim’s medical report form which was endorsed by a medical officer of the Enchi Government hospital, indicated that there was bruises around the vulva and the hymen has been perforated.

The Prosecutionn said Michael admitted the offence in his caution statement but explained that while sleeping, he heard strange voices telling him to have sex with the victim.
