The first time we heard about him, many wondered who the D?banj ?wanna ?be? was, but after dropping four singles, it was time for a rethink. Although he grew up in a certain ghetto part of Lagos, where the likes of Wande Coal emerged from Oluwadamilare Okulaja, the proud originator of the slang ?In the Zanga?, seems set to carve a niche for himself in the entertainment industry with his own brand of music. On the other hand, Oladapo Oyebanjo fondly referred to as D?banj, actually made his debut in the entertainment industry shortly after the release of his hit track, Tongolo and has gone on to build an empire  with his brand of music as well. To some, Durella has always imitated the character and charisma of D?banj. Although these artistes have succeeded in their various genres of music, Life & Times takes a critical look at these two artistes and examines their different and similar personalities.

How it all started
Oladapo Oyebanjo fondly known as D?banj got influenced by the performances of late Fela Anikulapo Kuti, but got stuck to the harmonica after the death of his brother, Ayodeji Oyebanjo in a plane crash.

Oluwadamilare Okulaja also known as Durella started music way back after been inspired by the music environment of Mushin where he grew up.

It is note worthy to add that both men have worked and excelled in their various genres of music.

Dress sense
can always be seen in a fitted shirt and a pair of trouser, his dress sense is usually as simple as possible. He is however very particular about his accessories; sunglasses, neck chains and bracelets. These blinged out pieces does a lot of good to his image which most ladies considers sexy.

D?banj: When it comes to fashion, D?Banj is way over the top but you can?t fault  him with his impeccable taste for high fashion which sits well on him. There is no doubt that off all the male artists in Nigeria, he comes out tops for always being well turned out with a good sense of style. Call him a show off when it comes to fashion and you won?t be wrong. His styles of dressing on stage can be linked to that of the late Abami Eda, Fela Anikulapo Kuti who was an advocate of fitted styles of clothing.

Durella: Who ever cares to listen, the Mushin born artiste has got a lot to offer in terms of street slangs which he incorporated into his style of music. These slangs includes; In the Zanga, 2gbaski, Omo Yapayaski, Miskiyaski, Wiskolowiska amongst others.

D?banj: When he started out as a musician, way back with the JJC and the 419 Squad members in the UK, no one ever thought he would get to the musical height he has since found himself. He came out with slangs like Kokolet, File; Don?t touch it, No Long Thing, Babylet, and Mamalet.

Stage performances

D?Banj: He is seen as an energetic, Charismatic, and infectious live performer who keeps the crowd yelling for more. He can also be a daring performer. One of his most daring performances was at the third edition of the Hip-Hop awards when he mounted the stage with a towel.

Durella: A great stage performer as well, his charisma on stage also gets the crowd yelling for more.

Environmental influences

Durella: His songs and lyrics reflect his Ghetto life style. Proudly born and raised in Mushin, he represents his locality as can be seen in most of his lyrics.  He doesn?t ever forget his roots as at least two to three tracks in any of his albums are always dedicated to the people of  Mushin.

D?banj: His songs and lyrics has little or representation to any particular environment as he considers himself a representation of the Nigeria. He however has a single, Mo bo lowo won in which he sand about his sojourn in the UK.
