Speaking at the launch of the news portal Wednesday here in the national capital, Kwasi Gyan-Apenteng, member of the National Media Commission (NMC) bemoaned the practice where some media practitioners rushed to publish any news item without taking into consideration the ethics of their profession.

?Some news operations behaved with the same ethos as social media and rushed to publish any piece of information they received without checking.

Today, we have established the ground rules for online news publishing which in short is that all the legal and moral demands of hard copy publishing also fall on news websites. Accuracy should never be sacrificed for speed,? he said.

The NMC member admonished media practitioners in the country to eschew sacrificing material gains for trustworthy news.

Editor for News Ghana, Roger A. Agana observed the news portal decided to rebrand following the negative perception that people attributed to Spy Ghana for allegedly undertaking espionage activities hence not conducive in business terms.

Other factors include calls from clients to rebrand the previous name as well as confusion of the name with other competitors.

Agana emphasized the focus of the news portal would mainly be on business with the corporate world as well as the general public about happenings in and around the world.

He commended the Xinhua News Agency, an international media house here as well as the Ghana News Agency for collaborating with the news portal.

There were fraternal messages from telecommunications companies in the country including MTN, Tigo, Airtel and other firms such as Vivo Energy, YAKDAN, Carter Consults Limited as well as Jogobu Company Limited.
Spy Ghana started in 2010 as a news blog providing general information to the public and later came to be accepted as a credible news portal in the country.

Before the rebranding, the average hits on Spy Ghana were about 350,000 daily, more than many websites in the country.

The most outstanding thing about News Ghana which can be assessed on is its swiftness to publications, and its articles focus on general news, business, entertainment, sports and international news.
Unlike other news portals which are not traditional media houses, News Ghana generates original and credible contents as well.

In just two months from the switch to its present name, News Ghana has an average of 85,000 hits per day, over 6000 likes on facebook, over 250,000 news feed subscribers as well as over 2600 subscribers on Google +.
The website since its inception has generated discussions on various platforms and is gaining acceptance within the corporate world and the general public as a whole.

With the rebrand, News Ghana seeks to become the most authoritative news website on the continent and eventually a force to recon with in the world.
