Ahey, a former sprinter and long jumper who competed in the 1964, 1968 and 1972 Summer Olympic Games, has been on admission at the 37 military hospital for some time.

Mr. Vanderpuije, prayed for a speedy recovery for one of the country’s greatest in athletes.

“He was a former coach of mine at the University of Ghana, he made so much impact on me. He wasn’t only training in athletics, but sports in general and his strict but flexible training regime helped us all to be better persons today.”

“Ahey has a lot to offer the country as far as athletics is concerned, he was among the greatest coaches we used to have in the 400, 800 and 1500 metres.

“Now that we are preparing for the Olympics, he could have just rushed to the camp to help and give the athletes one or two tit bits, I wish him well and hoping that he gets well soon” he said.

The Minister stated that the ministry is so much concerned about the wellbeing of all sports men in the country.

“The life’s and welfare of sports men in the country is valuable to us, including those who have retired, we will see how we collaborate with the family to make sure we give him the best and the support he require, in other to make Ahey strong and healthy.” He added.
