Spindelegger: ?Agreements between Sudan and South Sudan must be implemented quickly? / Vice-Chancellor and Foreign Minister Spindelegger pleased about success in negotiations

VIENNA, Austria, October 1, 2012/African Press Organization (APO)/ ? ?Given the agreement reached on important open issues between Sudan and South Sudan last evening, the people of the two countries can now hope for a peaceful and secure future?, Vice-Chancellor and Foreign Minister Spindelegger said, expressing his pleasure about the successful negotiations.

Spindelegger congratulated former South-African President Mbeki who had conducted the negotiations between the two parties. ?This is a great mediation success for Mbeki who has shown tremendous personal commitment for many months in order to achieve a peaceful solution.?

Spindelegger who regularly meets with representatives of both Sudanese states underlined that the agreements reached in petroleum and border issues must now be put into practice without delay: ?A country?s serious intention for peace is reflected mainly in the implementation of negotiation results.? Spindelegger said that the goal of the two Sudans would need to be good neighbourly relations and compliance with the agreements reached. This could also be an incentive for the economic involvement of potential foreign investors in the countries. ?Investment requires security?, Spindelegger said.

The Vice-Chancellor expressed his hope that the momentum from the agreement reached on Thursday evening would trigger a swift solution of the yet unsettled issues, such as the status of the border province of Abyei. ?The violence in the border dispute between the two countries, which affects defenceless civilians in particular, must finally be stopped.?
