Zambian President Edgar Lungu on Thursday tasked a ministerial committee of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Organ Troika to evaluate whether the Comoros, which joined the regional body in August 2018, has satisfied the prerequisite conditions for new entrants.

Lungu, who is chairperson of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defense and Security, has asked the committee, which will be meeting in the Comoros, to assess whether the island nation has satisfied the prerequisite conditions for new entrants to the regional body, according to Zambian foreign minister Joseph Malanji.

Malanji said the Zambian leader has urged the committee to use the familiarization mission to the Comoros to also assess the country’s preparedness to hold elections on March 24, 2019, according to a release. Enditem
