A South African pharmacy was on Monday slapped with a judgement to donate hand sanitizers, surgical gloves and face masks to two old-aged homes for hiking prices of medical products during the state of the national disaster.
The Competition Tribunal said that they received complaints that the Centrum pharmacy raised the price of masks by 100 percent in March.
“In terms of the agreement, Centrum pharmacy will immediately desist from the excessive pricing conduct,” said the Competition Tribunal communications officer Gillian de Gouveia.
She said the pharmacy agreed to donate 500 hand sanitizers, 320 items of three-ply face masks and seven boxes of gloves amounting to a total value of R25,410 (1,352 U.S. dollars) to two old-aged homes situated in Boksburg.
It is the first consent agreement relating to COVID-19 excessive pricing approved by the Tribunal. Enditem
