About 278 million U.S. dollars was expected to be invested in Zambia by South African firms this year, a Zambian official said on Friday.

Zambia’s investment agency, the Zambia Development Agency, granted 24 investment licenses to South African firms in 2019. The licenses for six other South African companies were renewed.


Jackson Miti, Zambia’s high commissioner to South Africa, said about 1,000 jobs will be created by the South African firms once the investment portfolios are fully actualized.

According to him, the agriculture and manufacturing sectors were leading the investment portfolios in terms of capital investment and jobs to be created while other sectors that attracted interest from South African firms included tourism, transport and service sectors, according to a press release.
