Asante Eying Success In Caf Confed Cup Following Mazembe?s Champions League Exit

By Ameenu Shardow

TP Mazembe winger Solomon Asante says the side is looking to make amends in the CAF Confederations Cup following their exit from the elite Champions League.

The DR Congo giants failed to progress to the group stage of the Champions League after suffering a 3-2 aggregate defeat to South African club Orlando Pirates.

The Ravens squandered several chances including two penalty kicks to bundle out of the competition at the ultimate hurdle before their expectant home crowd despite winning 1-0 in the second leg clash.

This was after Lamine N?Diaye?s men had suffered a 3-1 loss in the first leg game played at the Orlando Stadium.

The four-time African champions will now have to make the most of their drop-down to the Confederations Cup ? a prospect their Ghanaian winger is relishing.

?It?s sad we couldn?t make it to the group stages (of the Champions League),? Asante said.

?Obviously our intention was to win against Pirates, we missed two penalties, but I think luck was not on our side that day, we did everything possible, but hopefully it will be well.

?The fans are disappointed but that is football, we have to put that behind us and concentrate on the CAF Confederation Cup.

?It should be a realistic target for our team now that we are out of the Champions League.?

Asante is one of five Ghanaians who will no longer take part in this year?s competition of Africa?s elite club?s following TP Mazembe?s exit.
