Twenty six squatters of old Fadama popularly called Sodom and Gomorrah have been arrested for vandalising public property.

The Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, Superintendent Cephas Arthur confirmed the arrest to Radio Ghana.

Residents of Old Fadama went on the rampage as a result of the AMA?s demolition of illegal structures in that particular area.

Speaking to Radio Ghana, Superintendent Arthur said the service has commenced investigations into the incident.

He said they have started putting together the evidence gathered so far and will process the people for court as soon as investigations are completed.

Meanwhile, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, AMA says it is unperturbed by the demonstration organised by the squatters of old Fadama also known as Sodom and Gomorrah.

Speaking to Radio Ghana, the Chief Executive of the Assembly, Alfred Oko Vanderpuije said the demolition will continue until all illegal structures on water ways are removed.

He said the Assembly has an objective to save the lives of residents of Accra and so will not let anything hinder them from executing their mandate.
