Soccer team changes name to save club

A soccer side’s players have officially changed their names to resemble legends to save the cash-strapped club, which nearly went out of business last year.

Farnborough FC can now field the likes of Pele, Beckham, Maradona and Messi after the players changed their monikers by deed poll to rescue the finally-crippled non-league club, which nearly went out of business last year.

The team, based in Hampshire, southern England, signed a ?100,000 sponsorship deal with bookmakers Paddy Power and team manager Jose Mourinho, previously known as Spencer Day, claims the obscure changes have rescued the club.

He said: “Over the summer it looked touch and go if we’d even start the season, but now we’ve got the greatest team the world has ever seen.”
