Global aviation technology leader SITA announced an 8.3% revenue increase to US$1.6 billion for 2024 during its Annual General Assembly.
This performance reflects strong demand for digital transformation solutions across airports, airlines, and border services worldwide.
The company’s latest Impact Report reveals how strategic acquisitions and product innovations are addressing critical industry pressures including rising passenger volumes, operational efficiency demands, and sustainability targets.
With air traffic projected to grow 7% between 2025-2027, infrastructure constraints are intensifying. SITA CEO David Lavorel emphasized the company’s role in this landscape: “Our role is to deliver the travel tech the industry needs for new levels of efficiency in the flow of passengers, the movement of aircraft, and the fluidity of operations.” The report highlights several transformative initiatives, including the acquisition of Materna IPS which created the industry’s most comprehensive passenger processing portfolio. This move directly supports the accelerating adoption of biometric self-service, with over half of airports planning biometric check-in implementation by 2026.
Sustainability emerged as a major operational and technological focus. More than 40 airlines using SITA’s OptiFlight® and related solutions collectively saved 308,000 tons of CO₂ in 2024 – equivalent to over 1,000 global circumnavigations by commercial aircraft. The company has committed to achieving net zero operations by 2050 through its “Sustainability by Design” initiative, which embeds environmental considerations directly into product development cycles for both hardware and software solutions.
Strategic expansion beyond traditional aviation markets marked another key development. The launch of SmartSea, a joint venture with Columbia Shipmanagement, extends SITA’s travel technology to the maritime sector. Similarly, the acquisition of Italian airport design firm CCM aims to integrate passenger flow optimization into terminal planning stages. These moves align with industry trends where 65% of passengers expect to book intermodal trips within the next year.
Digital transformation accelerated through deployments like India’s DigiYatra program, where SITA implemented biometric solutions across 44 Airports Authority of India facilities. Border technology advancements included Dynamic Advance Passenger Processing systems enabling regulatory changes in minutes rather than days. The company’s R&D investment reached US$94 million, with 377 patents granted by year-end supporting innovations in AI, digital identity, and predictive analytics.
