Sinopec International Petroleum Services Ghana Limited, a subsidiary of China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (SINOPEC) of China, will help the Ghana National Gas Company Limited (GNGCL) to build a multipurpose port facility. port
The facility to be built at Domunli, 333 km west of the capital, is primarily meant for exporting Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and condensates from the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant (GPP) by sea to Tema, 38 km east of the capital.
“The Front-End-Engineering and Development (FEED) works are underway and will inform the authorities about the economic and technical aspects of the project, costs, positives and negatives,” said Mushtaq Kaloo, Engineering Advisor to SINOPEC, in an interview.
“The Domunli facility will get the next phase of the Ghana Gas project, which is the installation of a tank farm, a jetty and the export facility of the LPG and the bringing in of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) for the future development of Ghana and, especially, the Western Region,” he stated.
The facility will also include a 25 km-pipeline from the gas processing plant project at Atuabo, 327 km west of the capital, to the tank farm at Domunli where the LPG and condensates will be pumped.
While LPG from the gas processing plant will satisfy 75 percent of the demand in Ghana currently, the condensate is processed by the tema oil refinery to extract very high quality aviation and other fuels.
The facility will also enable Ghana to import LNG from other West African countries to be regasified for use in power plants at Aboadze, Prestea and any other parts that the government may want to supply instead of using crude or diesel to reduce cost. Enditem
