In the wake of an Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Sierra Leone’s health ministry said Tuesday the country has heightened alert in all border crossing points and districts to look out for any signs and symptoms of the disease.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, the ministry said the government has enhanced surveillance for Ebola virus disease and other acute viral hemorrhagic fever, like lassa fever.

The ministry said they have also initiated to sensitize health workers for timely detection and response, and to create public awareness for prevention.

Sierra Leone experienced Ebola in May 2014, which killed over 1,000 people. Enditem
