Seven firefighters are undergoing medical treatment at St. Dominic Catholic Hospital in Akwatia and Kade Government Hospital after a vehicular accident at Adankrono.
The incident occurred while the firefighters were responding to an emergency call at Otwenkwanta early Sunday morning. The team had received the emergency call at approximately 08:37 hours, reporting a fuel tanker that had veered off the road.
According to reports, the fire engine, bearing registration number FS 438, encountered an accident while navigating a curve near the Gaso filling station. Initial investigations suggest a potential steering lock issue caused the accident.
One of the eight personnel on board during the accident escaped unharmed. Five firefighters were transported to St. Dominic Hospital in Akwatia, while the driver and duty officer were taken to the Kade Government Hospital.
Eastern Regional Fire Service Commander, ACFO Jennifer Naa Yardley Quaye, visited hospitals and the accident site to assess the situation and reassure concerned parties.
Commander Quaye confirmed that all injured personnel are in stable condition and responding well to medical treatment.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the steering lock issue as they continue to manage the incident’s aftermath.
