At least seven people died and 21 others seriously injured after a public mini bus collided with a Mercedes Benz car in Zambia’s northern province of Copperbelt, local media said Wednesday.


The accident took place on a main road in Mufulira town.

Copperbelt Province Police Commissioner Joyce Kasosa said the accident happened when the Mercedes Benz, while in the process of overtaking, crashed into the oncoming minibus.

All the passengers in the Mercedes Benz, believed to be from the same family, died on the spot while the other two deceased and the injured were in the minibus which was carrying 23 passengers, she added.

Road accidents involving public buses are common in Zambia mainly due to careless driving. Enditem
