UNITED NATIONS — Chinese President Xi Jinping on Sunday made a four-point proposal on further advancing women’s rights worldwide while addressing a high-level summit at the United Nations (UN) headquarters.

UNITED NATIONS — U.S. President Barack Obama on Sunday committed the United States to achieving global development goals at a United Nations summit, vowing to reduce inequality and create opportunities around the world.

BARCELONA — Pro-independence political parties won on Sunday parliamentary elections in Spain’s northeastern region of Catalonia in a day marked by a huge participation of more than 77 percent.
With 96.05 percent of votes counted, the main pro-independence party, “Junts Pel Si” (Together for Yes) won 62 seats that added to the 10 seats of the smaller leftist party CUP (Candidatura d’Unitat Popular) to a total of 72 seats, a majority at the 135 seats parliament, but two fewer seats when compared with 2012 elections. JERUSALEM/DAMASCUS — The Israeli army said Sunday night that it fired artillery into Syria in response to an errant projectile that hit earlier the Golan Heights, in a second such incident in two days.
Earlier this evening, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that a rocket landed in an open field in the northern Golan Heights. No injuries or damages were reported. (Israel-Syria-Retaliation)

RAMALLAH — The Palestinian Presidency denied on Sunday reports that U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry opposed a meeting between the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The spokesperson of the Presidency Nabil Abu Rudeineh said in a statement published by the Palestinian official news agency Wafa that the position of President Abbas is clear. (Palestinians-Israel) Enditem
