Suspect arrested over threat to kill Senator Etok

The State Security Service (SSS) on Monday in Abuja said it had arrested one Mr Adeola Olaore, who allegedly threatened to assassination Senator Aloysius Etok.

Marilyn Ogar, the Deputy Director, Public Relations Department of the SSS, told newsmen in Abuja that the suspect hatched the plot to defraud Etok. The Senator had accused Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom of allegedly threatening to assassination him.

He said that the governor was after his life because of his ambition to contest for the senatorial seat in 2015. But the Akpabio said the allegations were baseless and totally fabricated to mislead the public.

Ogar said Olaore (the suspect), who is an indigene of Oyo State, used the information he obtained from the media about the rift between the Senator and Akpabio to perpetrate his act. She said that Olaore was apprehended in a Hotel in Abuja, on April 29 after the SSS directed the Senator to play along.

Etok had written a letter to the service concerning the assassination threat.

“Following a letter titled “Report of planned assassination by a man who call himself General Africa (an ex-militant) by Senator Etok to this Service, we directed the senator to play along with the suspect and this eventually led to his arrest on April 29,?? Ogar said.

She said that Olaore claimed that he obtained the Senator?s number from the NDDC office in Port Harcourt, where he stumbled on a mail bearing the Senator?s complementary card.

Ogar said the suspect was at the NDDC office to submit a mail when he obtained the Senator?s number.

She said the suspect was a graduate of Mechanical Engineering from the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt, and had offered to broker peace between the Senator and the governor.
