Reports available to DAILY GUIDE have intimated that the School Feeding Programme, initiated by President J A Kufuor?s New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, has been suspended, following the ongoing nationwide strike action by teachers.

The paper?s findings across various communities in the Brong-Ahafo Region indicated that coordinators of the programme had issued directives to the caterers to suspend cooking due to the industrial action.

Most school children who survive on the daily free hot lunch were made to go on empty stomachs as they went to school without any pocket money to buy food.

Ghanaian teachers, among other labour unions, including health workers, have declared an indefinite strike action following government?s refusal to transfer their second tier pension fund to independent fund managers to be invested to secure their pension.

Most teachers though reported to work yesterday, they refused to teach.

The paper learnt that some of the district education directorates had instituted taskforces moving to the public schools to ensure that the teachers strictly adhere to the strike action.
