THE Executive Chairman, Delta State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Mr. Elijah Ologe has assured that the Board would support existing School-Based Management Committees (SBMCs) in the state.

Elijah gave the assurance during the opening ceremony of a six-day workshop organised for CGPS and other state level master trainers on the fourth level SBMC training which took place at the conference hall of the Board.

According to him, the establishment of SBMCs was aimed at improving the growth and development of education in the country, just as he noted that there is no financial benefit attached to them (SBMCs).

?The concept of SBMCs which was an initiative of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) was to promote functional and qualitative education in the country?, he said, adding that the Board (SUBEB) was ready to render full support to SBMCs in the state.

While commending UBEC for the success story it has recorded over the years in the education sector of the nation?s economy, especially at the basic level, Elijah disclosed that the SBMC concept was created to, also, ensure community participation in the management of schools in the various communities.

The chairman of the Board said that the workshop was apt and timely as it (the workshop) would ensure a strong lining between teachers, civil societies, parents and community participation in promoting quality education in their areas.

Elijah, who urged participants at the workshop to engage themselves in fruitful deliberations that would bring about meaningful development to the education sector, assured that the Board would assist in the area of capacity building of teachers in the state.
