Saudi Arabian Minister of State for Arab Gulf Affairs Thamer al-Sabhan revealed here on Monday that the kingdom will appoint a new ambassador to Lebanon and remove its travel advisory to Beirut.

The minister arrived in Beirut on Sunday and met with President Michel Aoun and stated following their meeting that Saudi airlines will increase flights to Lebanon.

Al-Sabhan is the highest ranking Saudi official to visit Lebanon since President Michel Aoun’s trip to Saudi Arabia and Qatar last month in order to boost ties with Arab states and to remove the travel advisory against Gulf citizens traveling to Lebanon.

Since former Ambassador Ali Awad Assiri’s term ended in August, Riyadh hasn’t had an ambassador in Lebanon.

Currently, it is represented in Lebanon by Saudi Charge d’Affairs Walid al-Bukhari.

Saudi officials promised their renewed support of Lebanon, most notably through returning Saudi tourists and resuming investments in the country.

Al-Sabhan also met with Prime Minister Saad Hariri, and a statement issued by the PM’s press office said that discussions addressed local and regional developments, in addition to bilateral ties between both countries. Enditem
