According to her, this will send the right signals to the rank and file of both parties that she is ready to bring both parties together.

Previous attempts to merge the CPP and the PNC have proved futile.

Similar talks in the past were suspended due to the timing and other unresolved issues within the respective parties.

The chair persons and general secretaries of the CPP and the PNC were co-opted to be part of the unity committee of the two parties to speed up the processes leading to the unification of the parties.

Originally, because the unity committee did not include the general secretaries and party persons, decisions taken by the committee had to be submitted to the respective parties executives for scrutiny and dissemination to the rank and file, which caused delays.

Samia Nkrumah said she is optimistic her sacrifice for both parties will unite both parties to save Ghana from its current situation.

?We[CPP] would be ready to step down or relinquish the position for the sake of a united Nkrumahist party and I am saying that with reference to the CPP and the PNC becoming one?

She further proposed that the CPP leadership holds another meeting to discuss some of the proposals on the table for a political alignment.

The General Secretary of the CPP, Ivor Greenstreet following the violence which broke out at the NPP?s headquarters in Accra in August, urged Nkrumahist parties to ?focus on how to take advantage of any opportunity presented to them.?

He advised the smaller parties involved in the merger talks to display unity of purpose to present a viable alternative to Ghanaians.
