South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has called on African countries to work together to improve the tourism sector and make the continent a destination of choice.

Ramaphosa was speaking at Africa Travel Indaba in Durban on Friday.

“We must brand and build Africa as a continent with only the best,” he said. “We can achieve that as a united continent.”

Ramaphosa encouraged countries to embrace technology and be innovative to improve the sector, stressing the role of the youth, women and small businesses.

“We should remove unnecessary red tape that tourists face,” he said. “We should streamline our visa regime.”

“South Africa is dedicated to working with the rest of the continent towards a united Africa,” Ramaphosa said.

He said Africa should fight crime to ensure the safety of tourists. Enditem
