BARELY six days after the Rivers State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, decamped from the Peoples Democratic Party, one of the 26 lawmakers that are in support of the governor has joined the camp of the supervising Minister of Education, Chief Nyesom Wike.

The lawmaker representing Andoni State Constituency in the House of Assembly, Mr. Ikunyi Owaji, announced his support for Wike on Sunday during the inauguration of the Grassroots Development Initiative in Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area.

Owaji, who is the House Whip, said he represented the conscience of
politics and had taken a firm decision. ?I represent the conscience of politics. When a lion moves, it moves with its tail.? Owaji told the crowd during his short speech at the GDI rally.

Speaking on the Owaji?s decamping, the State Chairman of the PDP, Mr.
Felix Obuah, explained that more pro-Amaechi lawmakers would soon
leave Amaechi?s camp.

Obuah disclosed that some of the lawmakers who had been in support of
the governor, had consulted him and pleaded that they should be readmitted into the PDP.

He said, ?Eight of them have come asking that we should admit them
back; that they have been suffering. Chief Whip is leading the group
of eight of them I had meetings with. We will meet to consider them.?

Obuah, who alleged that Amaechi was hiring thugs to destroy PDP
signposts, called on GDI supporters to resist any attempt by
government agents to destroy PDP property.

He assured that the PDP would allow Amaechi to use the state?s
resources to fund the opposition party.

However, Obuah and other speakers at the event, vowed not to allow the
flag of the All Progressives Congress to be hoisted anywhere in the
state, promising that they will ensure that APC?s presence in the
state was short-lived.
