Amnesty International Ghana has announced the appointment of Mr. Robert Akoto Amoafo as Director for its Section. He has over 10 years working experience in the field of human rights and takes over the mantle from Mr. Frank Doyi.

In a press release from Amnesty International Ghana and copied to on 17th January, 2018 indicates that, Mr. Amoafo commenced his human rights work with the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative, Africa Regional Office (CHRI) as a Project Assistant in 2007. In 2012 he joined the Human Rights Advocacy Centre (HRAC) as a Programs Manager and eventually rose to the top of the organization as the Executive Director in 2013.

In 2015, Mr. Amoafo was appointed Technical Advisor to the Linkages Project which was implemented by FHI 360 and flinded by USAID, Ghana. At FH1360, Robert worked with a vibrant team to move HIV programming from a focus on prevention to treatment. Mr. Amoafo also worked with the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) as Communications Consultant from May 2016 to June 2017. He contributed to strengthening the external communications of the Ministry and also contributed to increasing the online presence of the Ministry.

As an advocate Robert has technical and research experience in gender and sexuality, human trafficking, health rights, international human rights law, mental health and disability, navigation of the justice system and policy advocacy. He is keen on advancing economic, social and cultural rights and promoting the empowerment of Ghanaians to assert their rights.

Mr. Robert Akoto Amoafo is a graduate of the University of Ghana, Legon and holds a Bachelors Degree in English and Information Studies. He also holds a certificate in Conflict Management, Gender and Human Rights from the Centre for Conflict Resolution, Cape Town South Africa.

He is an alumnus of the International Visitor’s Leadership Program (IVLP) and the Dutch Visitor’s Program (DVP).

As the Director, Mr. Amoafo works as the “Chief Executive Officer” and spokesperson of Amnesty International Ghana.
