The Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Vincent Oppong Asamoah, who officially performed the ceremonial launch, advised students to take their studies seriously and combine it with sports to make a better life for themselves and mother Ghana.

“I urge you all to take sports seriously in your various schools, I have always had a problem where schools are built without sporting facilities. Pursuing only academic work without sports is not the best way to develop,” he added.

Mr. William Ocansey, Chief Executive Officer of Dreamland Sports Plus, disclosed that the 30-kilometre relay would start from Baatsona Total on the Spintex Road with a baton change after 5- kilometre interval, with six athletes running.

He said the next relay will be at the Nungua Barrier, which will be covered through the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange then through Osu to the Accra Sports Stadium for both the male and female athletes.

Country Director for Blue Crest College, Mr Vivek Verma announced a full scholarship package for two students who would emerge winners in both the male and female category and a subsidized fees for other athletes who will join Blue Crest College.

The event is sponsored by Peak Milk, Blue Crest College, and Digestive Biscuits and supported by the National Sports Authority and the Ghana Police Service.

“I’m excited to be part of Vodafone Unity Match” – Campbell
Accra, May 15, GNA – Former Arsenal and England player Sol Campbell, has said, he is excited to be part of the Vodafone Unity Match 2016, scheduled for June 8 and June 111, at the Baba Yara and Accra Sports Stadium respectively.

Speaking from his base in England, Campbell, who is among the tall list of international football icons invited for Vodafone Unity Match next said, he was happy to be joining former Black Stars captain, Stephen Appiah to play a unity match to promote peace and unity ahead of the 2016 General Elections.

According to Campbell, football remains symbol of peace and unity across the globe and he was looking forward to coming to Ghana to play in the two matches.

“I can’t wait to be part of this historic event. It’s going to be big in Ghana and i will definitely be part of the event”. Campbell stated.

Campbell, would join a group of international football icons to play Kumasi Asante Kotoko at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi on June 8 and return to Accra to play the Black Stars at the Accra Sports Stadium on June 11.

The event an initiative of Primeval Media and former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah would be used to promote peace and unity ahead of the elections.

The two-legged match would be sponsored by communication giants Vodafone Ghana, with support from uniBank, NLA, Adidas, Ethiopian Airlines, Azar Chemical Industries, Tang Palace Hotel and TT Brothers.
