A total of 396 people died in traffic accidents on roads in Zambia in the first quarter of 2018 while 673 others were seriously injured, the police said on Wednesday.

Esther Mwaata-Katongo, Zambia Police Spokesperson, said the country recorded a total of 7,247 road traffic accidents during the first quarter of the year compared to 7,068 recorded during the same period last year.

According to her, out of the total number of accidents recorded, 340 were fatal accidents in which 396 people died compared to 480 deaths recorded in 343 fatal accidents recorded during the first quarter of 2017. Enditem
