AFCON 2017 Coach Sports Zimbabwe

The Zimbabwean national team, qualified for their first Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), since a decade ago would be one of the few teams to present a home grown coach for the competition.

The three times COSAFA Champions, would be led by the former coach of Dynamo Football Club, Callistos Pasuwa.

Callistos Pasuwa, was born on 20th June 1970 in Mutare, as a professional, he was well known for his exploits with Dynamo FC, where he won so many trophies and contributed immensely to the clubs success in 1998 CAF champions League.

He later became the head coach of Dynamo FC from 2011 to 2014 and doubled as the assistant coach of the Warriors of Zimbabwe. He became perhaps the country’s most successful coach after win four consecutive league trophies and other cups, making a total of 12 trophies in his 4years stay with the ‘Glamour Boys’. Pasuwa is considered as the best local coach in Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwean Football Federation (ZFF), saw the need to appoint Callistos Pasuwa, as the head coach of the Warriors, following his remarkable work with the national U-23 side, where he qualified the team to play in the All Africa Games in 2015.

After been appointed as the head coach of the warriors of Zimbabwe in 2015, he has rejuvenated his side to become very competitive, notwithstanding their recent financial crisis, the team’s easy qualification to the Africa Cup of Nation, is a clear evidence of the expertise of Pasuwa. Zimbabwe is drawn into Group B with Senegal, Algeria and Tunisia.
