He criticized the situation where some of them kept behaving like the church was their personal property and said that must stop.

pastorThe Rev Dr. Adu-Gyamfi, who also heads the Ghana Christian Council, was addressing the 28th annual retreat and business meeting of the Minister’s Conference of the GBC in Ejura in the Ejura-Sekyedumase Municipality.

The theme chosen for the event was “The Christian minister, his character and attitude”.

He underlined the need for them to mirror sublime qualities of integrity, truthfulness, humility and self-discipline and said they should become good example not only to the congregation but society at large.

The Rev Dr. Adu-Gyamfi expressed discomfort with the conduct of some of the pastors, saying, the character traits and attitudes displayed by “some so-called men and women of God leaves much to be desired”.

He said The GBC was taking steps to protect the image of the clergy and prevent any unsuitable individuals from finding their way into the priesthood.

The church would now make sure that any person ordained as priest was taken rigorous background checks.

He spoke of instances where people had used fake certificates to gain admission the seminaries and said that could not continue.

The Rev Dr. Adu-Gyamfi said the expectation was that pastors would stick to Christian values and the truth Bible teachings to become a positive influence on society.

“We are gradually being influenced by the world and forgetting that we are in the world and not of the world as stated in the Bible,” he added.

The Rev Mark Nti Frimpong, President of the Conference, discouraged his colleagues from using the pulpit to engage in partisan politics.

They should rather help the congregation to have better understanding of their fundamental rights and civic responsibilities to remove needless political tension and conflict.

Alhaji Mohammed Braimah Bawah, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), called for stronger partnership between the church and the government to transform the living conditions of the people.
