Mr. Mumuni Sulemana, the Upper West Regional Director of the National Youth Authority (NYA), has called on all stakeholders including the donor community to assist in resourcing NYA for it to guide the youth towards sustainable development.

He said the youth are one of the critical resources of the nation considering their potential, numbers, vitality and capabilities as change agents for national transformation.

Mr. Sulemana, who spoke during a youth summit in Wa, said the state required a well equipped NYA to guide and direct the systematic mobilization and development of the youth for sustainable national development.

He said the youth were faced with many challenges including lack of access to quality education, unemployment and underemployment, lack of participation in decision making and high vulnerability to hunger, malnutrition, substance abuse and sexually transmitted diseases among others.

Mr. Sulemana said he believed a well resourced NYA would be able to help guide the youth not to fall prey to any of such challenges.

He mentioned the annual Upper West achievers awards, the building of a multi-purpose youth center, annual short term skill training for the youth and annual sensitization forum on negative behaviors of the youth as some of the future programmes to be undertaken by the NYA in the region.

Others include youth into modern agric project (farming) with JACOBWELLS, youth into poultry rearing with Tycriss Company, youth leaders summit, inter community annual unity soccer and clean-up exercise to mark the regional celebration the 40th Anniversay of NYA.

Mr. Sulemana appealed to all stakeholders to help the regional office of the NYA to implement its future programmes for the betterment of the youth. GNA
