The collapsed public toilet at the Kasoa new market

Residents at Kasoa have expressed fears of a possible cholera outbreak after a public toilet caved in on Saturday near the Kasoa new market.

The body of a 54 year old ?trotro? driver, identified as Raphael Kojo Manu was retrieved from the pit by personnel from the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Fire Service.

Four other persons were rescued and taken to the Kasoa Health Center but has since been discharged.

Human excreta from the pit were dug out onto the ground to facilitate the rescue of the victims but the residents believe this might cause an outbreak of Cholera.

In an interview with Citi News, the Assembly man for Jomens Klometey electoral area, Nicholas Sowah explained the area will be disinfected to prevent any infection on the residents.

He said: ?The waste will be put back into the pit when it is dried up but sanitation officers and Zoomlion will come to disinfect the place as an interim measure so that it wouldn?t affect anybody.?
