President John Mahama has called on the Electoral Commission to re-train its officials on the proper use of the biometric verification machines.

For the first time in Ghana?s electoral history, the voting period exceeded a day due to the malfunctioning and breakdown of the verification devices introduced for the election.

Speaking at the 12th congregation of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) in Accra, the President said: ?There were glitches with the verification machines and these almost marred the beauty of the elections. I think there is the need for training and re-training of the personnel who handled these verification machines in order that we can have a smoother voting the next time.?

He however congratulated the EC for the peaceful conduct of the just ended election despite the problems saying, ?let me take this opportunity to salute the Electoral Commission and all its staff who supervised this election for their diligence in conducting their responsibilities especially considering that this was the first time we had experimented with biometric registration.?
