American singer Ray J has prompted widespread concern following a Valentine’s Day performance in which what appeared to be blood was seen streaming from his eye while he wore a medical dressing on his chest.
The 45-year-old performer, whose real name is William Ray Norwood Jr., appeared at An Intensive Valentine’s Day Concert in Shreveport, Louisiana on Saturday, 14 February 2026, distributing roses to fans while a red liquid was visible running down his face from beneath his sunglasses.
Video footage circulating on social media platforms showed the substance dripping from the One Wish singer’s eye, though it remains unclear whether the red liquid was blood or a stage effect. The nature of the substance has not been confirmed by Ray J or his representatives.
During the performance, Ray J unzipped his orange jumpsuit to reveal his torso, exposing what appeared to be medical dressing on the upper left side of his chest. Observers speculated the dressing may be related to a heart monitor or cardiac device, though this has not been verified.
Despite the concerning visuals, Ray J maintained high energy throughout the performance, jumping off the stage to sing among fans in the pit. In backstage footage shared online, he told a friend he was fine and dismissed suggestions he was unwell.
The performance follows a January 2026 hospitalization in Las Vegas where Ray J was treated for severe pneumonia and heart pain. Following that hospitalization, the singer disclosed on social media that his heart was functioning at approximately 25 percent capacity.
Ray J told followers in late January that doctors had informed him he was not expected to live beyond 2027, attributing his deteriorating health to years of heavy alcohol consumption and drug abuse. He said he was taking eight medications as part of his treatment.
The singer, who is the younger brother of recording artist Brandy, was previously hospitalized for pneumonia in 2021. He has been open about his health struggles in recent weeks, sharing updates with fans through social media livestreams.
According to reports, doctors have advised Ray J he may require a pacemaker or defibrillator in the near future. The entertainer has been prohibited from smoking or drinking as part of his treatment regimen.
Ray J performed alongside other artists including Bobby Valentino, Kelly Price, and Sunshine Anderson at the Louisiana concert. The event was part of a scheduled Valentine’s Day performance series.
Fans responding to the circulating videos expressed shock and concern, with many questioning whether the blood was genuine or part of a theatrical presentation. Social media discussion centered on whether Ray J should continue performing given his disclosed health condition.
The singer has not yet addressed the speculation surrounding the apparent blood or provided clarification on what occurred during the performance. His management has not issued a statement regarding the incident.
Ray J rose to prominence in the 1990s and early 2000s with hits including One Wish and Sexy Can I. He has also appeared in reality television programs and business ventures throughout his career.
