Ghana defender Rashid Sumaila has thanked local fans for their total support despite conceding a penalty in their 6-1 win over Egypt.

The 20-year-old conceded a penalty after bringing down striker Mohammed Salah in the first half with the resultant kick expertly converted by Mohamed Aboutrika.

But the Mamelodi Sundowns centre-back never waned in confidence and put up a solid display at the back for the Black Stars.

The ex-Ebusua Dwarfs defender has showered praise on the local fans for the support he received despite the set-back.

?I am very grafetul to the fans for the support they gave me especially,? Sumaila said

?When I conceded that penalty they never gave up and continued to support me.

?I never intended for that thing to happen. But I guess its part of the game and I have learnt my lessons.

?I promise not to repeat that mistake which cost us the penalty. The mistake will only make me a better player.

?But like I said I am thankful for the support.?

Sumaila has since joined his South African Sundowns after the international break.
