Queen mothers, women group sensitized on DLE and Referendum

Queen Mothers and about 50 women from the Gbi Bla Women Association in the Hohoe Municipality of the Volta Region have been sensitized on the District Level Elections and the impending referendum for constitutional amendment.

Mr. Ernest Amedior, Hohoe Municipal Director of National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) said there was the need to sensitize the citizenry on the decentralization processes for them to come out and vote to elect Unit Committee and Assembly Members to represent them.

He said it was also important to make people understand the need to vote in the referendum for whether District Level Elections should be partisan or non-partisan, adding that their participation was crucial for the accelerated development of their electoral areas.

Mr Amedior called on the Queen Mothers to be peace ambassadors in their respective areas before, during and after the election and also help the Commission sensitize their subjects to come out on December 17, 2019 to exercise their franchise as in article 41 of 1992 Fourth Republican Constitution.

Madam Edna Mensah, an Officer from the Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) urged the women to offer the needed support to physically challenged persons who were aspiring to become assembly members in their various electoral areas adding that the ideas of those aspirants should be assessed not their predicament.

She said “good” aspiring members should be given the nod to bring development to their areas especially female aspirants, saying, women were mostly development-oriented and could offer help to members of society.

Mama Dzitri Norvitorwo II, Vice President of the Hohoe Municipal Council of Queen Mothers thanked the NCCE for the education and pledged support for a successful election.

Other Queen mothers who were present also appealed to the Commission to get to the youth and sensitize them to come out and vote.
