PWDs in Tain

Tain District Assembly in the Brong Ahafo region has supported 70 People with Disabilities (PWD’s) of all kinds on Education, Income generation and Medical/Assistive Device in the District.

At a ceremony to distribute the items at the forecourt of the Assembly, Madam Charity Akua Oforiwaa Dwommoh, the District Chief Executive said the items procured from the Disability Fund which is the 2% deduction from the Assembly’s share of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) for the 3rd and 4th quarters of 2016 and 1st to 3rd quarters of 2017.

The DCE said the Assembly engaged them on several occasions to help identify their talents and needs to resource them to be self-relied permanently than to be given them temporal meals daily. She urged them to make good use of items to help create sustainable employment and better their lives and families and also to create employment for others. ‘We will be visiting you from time to time to monitor how you would utilizing the items.’ She added.

In all, 19 people received educational support of all kinds, 5 received sewing machines, 5 Deep Freezers, 1 Corn Mil, 1 Overloc Machine, 1 Motor king, 1 Epson printer, 6 Metal containers, 1 wheel chair, Clutches, Artificial Leg, and foot surgery while 27 people had support in Livestock in the categories of poultry, sheep, goats and pigs.

The District president of Ghana Federation of Disables Mr. Adomako urged the other members to trust the Assembly and wait patiently for their allocation of the District Assembly Common Fund since it can never be diverted for any project but to be shared in batches every quarter.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Madam Clara Nsowaa thanked the Government and Assembly for the gesture. According to her, it is the first time they have received the benefit in such a package since they were previously using it for feeding but with this, they are assured of establishing themselves and not be always seen begging.
