Prudential Bank Limited, one of Ghana’s leading indigenous commercial banks, and global payments technology company Mastercard have reaffirmed their strategic partnership, pledging deeper collaboration across corporate banking, small and medium enterprise (SME) support, personal banking, and digital payments throughout 2026.

The renewed commitment was formalised during a high-level courtesy visit by a Mastercard delegation to Prudential Bank’s head office in Accra, where executives from both institutions mapped out joint priorities and identified new areas of collaboration for the year ahead.

Mastercard’s Country Director, Bossman Kwapong, said the engagement was driven by a desire to fully understand the bank’s strategic direction before committing resources. “Prudential Bank remains a strategic partner to Mastercard. This engagement allowed us to align on the Bank’s 2026 objectives and identify how we can support in bringing that vision to life,” he said.

Acting Managing Director of Prudential Bank, Ebow Quayson, said the partnership places the bank in a stronger position to serve its diverse customer base. “We are committed to ensuring that our customers, Corporates, SMEs and Personal must always have access to world-class digital payment platforms for superior experience,” he said. “This collaboration with Mastercard positions us to deliver exactly that.”

Discussions during the meeting covered proposals targeting SME growth, corporate payment solutions, personal banking services, cybersecurity awareness, and fraud prevention. Both sides agreed to leverage their respective strengths, Mastercard’s global payments infrastructure and Prudential Bank’s entrenched local corporate relationships, to open new opportunities for Ghanaian businesses.

The visit builds on an already active partnership. In 2022, the two institutions jointly launched corporate and standard Mastercard-branded cards for businesses and individuals. The bank has since integrated Mastercard products across its suite of payment channels, including point-of-sale terminals, online platforms, and international travel cards.

The renewed collaboration also aligns with Prudential Bank’s broader digital strategy. The bank has been working to deepen its footprint on the Pan-African Payment and Settlement System (PAPSS) to support intra-African trade, and recently held strategic discussions with PAPSS Chief Executive Mike Ogbalu III on improving transaction performance across the continent.

The Mastercard delegation included Vice Presidents Idriss Damiri and Unwana Esang from the Services Business Development division, alongside Director of Account Management Grace Adu-Okyere and Account Management Manager George Opoku.
